Types of Fire Extinguishers Supplied and Installed by Fire Protection Solihull
Fire Extinguishers are an effective first line of defence against fire and come in various different types & sizes:
Water
These extinguishers are designed to deal with Class A fires (combustible materials for example Paper, Wood, Textiles) and come in various sizes from 3 Litres to 9 Litres. As with all extinguishers they are most effective when training has been provided. There are 2 types of water extinguishers available: Standard Water – 6 litre and 9 litres, Water Spray – 3 litre, 6 litre and 9 litres.
Foam
These extinguishers are designed to deal with Class A fires (combustible materials for example Paper, Wood, Textiles) and Class B fires (flammable liquids – fuel, oils etc) these come in various sizes from 2 Litres to 9 Litres. Foam extinguishers all come as spray type extinguishers. As with all extinguishers they are most effective when training has been provided. Sizes available are: 1 Litre, 2 litre, 3litre, 6 litre and 9 litres.
Powder
These extinguishers are designed to deal with Class A fires (combustible materials for example Paper, Wood, Textiles), Class B fires (flammable liquids – fuel, oils etc), Class C fires (Flammable Gases for example propane/ methane) and for Electrical Risks, these come in various sizes from 1 kg to 9 kg. As with all extinguishers they are most effective when training has been provided. Sizes available are: 1 kg, 2kg, 4 kg, 6 kg, and 9 kg.
CO2
These extinguishers are designed to deal with Electrical Risks (examples of these would be PC’s, motors, fuse boards etc.) Class B fires (flammable liquids – fuel, oils etc.) As with all extinguishers they are most effective when training has been provided. They are available in the following sizes: 2 kg and 5 kg.
Wet Chemical
These extinguishers are designed to deal with Class A fires (combustible materials for example Paper, Wood, and Textiles) and Class F fires (cooking oil fires) these come in various sizes from 2 Litres to 9 Litres. Foam extinguishers all come as spray-type extinguishers. As with all extinguishers they are most effective when training has been provided. Sizes available are 2 litres, 3 litres and 6 litres.
Wheeled Fire Extinguishers
This type of extinguisher is typically used on large industrial sites that have a particular risk that requires a large capacity extinguisher. These are most effective when training has been provided. Wheeled extinguishers are available with Foam, Powder and CO2 and typically come in the following sizes: 20 kg, 50 kg and 50 litres.
Fire Blankets
These can be used to deal with fires involving chip pans, woks, small waste bins and clothing. These are most effective when training has been provided. Fire blankets are available in the following sizes: 1m x 1m, 1.2m x 1.2m, 1.2m x 1.8m, 1.8m x1.8m
